The City of Padua wins the important “Covenant of Mayors – Europe Award 2021” for its Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP), developed thanks to the LIFE Veneto ADAPT project.
From the analysis of vulnerabilities to the identification of shared adaptation actions and the structured monitoring system, the drafting of the SECAP took place thanks to a shared process conducted in collaboration with the other cities, partner of the European project: besides Padua, leader of LIFE Veneto ADAPT, Vicenza, Treviso, the metropolitan area of Venice and the Unione dei Comuni del Medio Brenta (Cadoneghe, Curtarolo, Vigodarzere) with the technical support of the Coordinamento Agende 21 Locali Italiane, IUAV University of Venice and Sogesca srl.
Approved in June 2021, the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) is the tool through which the Veneto municipality plans its actions to increase its ability to respond to climate change, to achieve the ambitious 55.3% reduction in CO2 by 2030 (in line with what was approved by the European Council in December 2020) and progressively achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
